London based Doggy De-stress Ltd is the first mental health and wellbeing business of its kind in the UK. We take dogs in to businesses and Universities to de-stress staff. The Company is owned and operated by Rob Harris and Mel Kemps.
We set up the business in 2016 and it has gone from strength to strength. We count British Airways, John Lewis, England Rugby, The Football Association, Harrods, Snapchat, and The Savoy amongst many of our high profile clients. We have loved travelling around our great city of London and visiting some incredible offices, clients and people. London is unique and so are we.
London can be a stressful place to be at times and scientific evidence shows how stroking and cuddling dogs slows heart rate and lowers blood pressure. It's also smile inducing, great fun, and a great team bonding event that relaxes and de-stresses all involved, dogs included!
Pre COVID-19, our two hour sessions involved rotating groups of eight to ten people every fifteen minutes in an enclosed room with three of our dogs. It was a welcome fifteen minute break from desks and computers and brought many smiles and a sense of wellbeing. Sessions were always fully booked and ‘best day ever’ was the most common feedback we heard. Because of COVID-19 for obvious reasons we have been unable to operate and we have not delivered a session since March 2020. We had a fully booked March, April and May. All that was lost as we went into lockdown.
Our Ltd company is one of those small businesses that has fallen through the cracks of being eligible for any of the COVID-19 financial rescue packages offered by the Government. We’ve managed to keep the company afloat so far but there is no denying that it’s a struggle without the certainty of knowing how and when businesses and staff will return to a new normal. We really need some help and lots of luck in the coming months.
One thing is certain following this pandemic. The mental health of everyone is top of the agenda and going to be at the forefront of every employer’s mind in the next few months. Doggy De-stress was established to help and improve on mental health during stressful, uncertain and difficult times. There is no better time for our business and dogs to be available, albeit with some operational COVID-19 tweaks for your employees. Our sessions are a great incentive to return to the office, in teams, in small groups, all socially distanced and to a new normal.
This is where we need your help! Doggy De-stress is not ready to give up yet. We have worked too hard and have too much to offer and we’re monitoring closely how London responds to the push to go to the office when you can. We are very confident that we can adapt the way we work to get us over the obstacles that face us whilst COVID-19 is still here.
If we reach our target through this scheme and with the Mayor's help we can survive these uncertain times into 2021, when we know business will pick up and we can be there for our current and new clients.
