Papa’s Park is an open access playground in the heart of Brixton, that has seen many generations of children pass through its gates. We have a range of play equipment, a separate under 5’s area and a flood-lit all-weather pitch. You may have enjoyed food and drinks in our café or hired our hall for a birthday party.
The Pulross Area Play Association was set up in the 90s to rescue a derelict former council run play area and save it from developers. The group created a safe haven for children in the area and their families. This work continues today with a dedicated team of volunteers who are committed to protecting this very special community asset for future generations.Papa’s playground has recently undergone a large redevelopment with new state of the art play equipment, soft surface, shooting hoop and multi-use games area for football, basketball and netball. To complete the renovation, we had recently commenced fundraising to build a brand-new sustainable community space, this would include a larger café for locals and better hall facilities.
We also have a community garden where locals help to grow vegetables and teach children about the natural world. During the renovations we were able to build new planters to extend the beds at Papa’s and our new community building will have a green roof. The pandemic means we are closed at the moment. The revenue we rely on to keep the park afloat from the café, hall and pitch hire has stopped.
We ask that if you, your children or your family have ever played at our playground, you support us during these unprecedented times. So we can remain an open-access space for the community and safe-guard this important part of Brixton from luxury flat developments.
