SAVE THE GRAND. SAVE JOBS & HELP US STAY OPEN POST COVID-19
We've been honoured to have generations of you partying with us since 1900, and we desperately want this to continue, but we need your help to save us.
Whilst we are closed we are paying £50k a month in rent and have successfully crowdfunded by our way to finance August’s rent, but come September our resources will have run out and we have to find a way to successfully open to prevent us from permanently closing.
This will be a challenge in itself, as being forced to trade below 75% of your capacity in terms of attendance and with restrictions on types of performance will push us creatively with programming and our operational resources but we are incredibly positive about our future.
Having saved The Grand for the foreseeable future, we now need to focus all our energy, passion and skill into opening and staying open, finding a way of building an operational, programable business model working inline with operating at a greatly reduced capacity due to physical distancing to prevent this from ending up in huge debt from just opening the doors, but also future proof the venue for another 120 years.
We want to continue our investment into streaming facilities to be able to capitalise on the success we have already showed over lockdown and make sure we are in the front door of the need for online production led events. We need to increase our capacity via refurbishing the disused upper circle which would increase our seated capacity by 150 people.
We also need to execute the plans we had drawn up for a roof garden to create the vital outside space the venue needs, but more than anything improve our accessibility for all our customers by adding disabled toilets, vastly improved accessibility to the venue, and facilities for blind and deaf customers to be able to enjoy our shows.
This isn’t just about surviving our enforced Covid closure, or about reopening for one show, one week or even a month. This is about future proofing one of the world oldest entertainment venues, to make sure in it’s 120th year The Clapham Grand is is made secure for audiences to enjoy shows for centuries to come.
We have survived two world wars, riots, multiple recessions, a decade of closure in the 80’s and even the last global flu-pandemic in 1918 and we now ask for your help to survive this one.
